We Did Three Coast-to-Coast Trips Across the US

Bike Challenge

Even though Pittsburgh lost to Cleveland in the Rust Belt Challenge, PCRG would still like to celebrate its participation in the National Bike Challenge and thank all of the PCRG Bike Team riders for diligently logging their miles.

During this year’s five-month challenge period (May-September), the twenty-person PCRG Bike Team collectively rode over 11,000 miles which is the equivalent of three coast-to-coast trips across the USA! Compared to last year, that is double the amount of participants on the PCRG Bike Team and nearly triple the amount of miles ridden!

Here are the numbers:

  • The PCRG Bike Team finished in 5th place out of 49 local Pittsburgh teams and 226th place out of 1265 national teams.
  • The twenty-person PCRG Bike Team represented twelve different local Pittsburgh organizations.
  • 41% of the 11,000 miles ridden was for Sport/Fun and 59% was for Transport.
  • The team burned over 600,000 calories.
  • We saved approximately 10,000 lbs. of CO2.

We would like to congratulate the top three cyclists who contributed the most points to the PCRG Bike Team: 1) Chris Sandvig, PCRG’s Regional Policy Director; 2) Siena Kane, Uptown Partners’ Program Coordinator; and 3) Steve Novotny, PCRG’s RCI Program Manager.

We also want to give a special shout out to our bike tour guides who meticulously mapped out bike routes and woke up early on Saturday mornings to give our riders a tour of their communities.

We’re already looking forward to the 2015 National Bike Challenge!
