PCRG is currently hiring a Capacity VISTA for the 2017-2018 service year. The position begins on June 23, 2017 and ends on June 22, 2018. This project supports our membership organizations to leverage PCRG’s longstanding leadership role in advocating for equitable public policy, community access to resources, and strategic organizational partnerships to build neighborhood development capacity driven by meaningful community inclusion. The Capacity VISTA will positively impact the low- and moderate-income communities by building capacity within these distressed areas.

 

The PCRG Capacity VISTA will have the opportunity to empower Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in various capacities. The Capacity VISTA will achieve this by: (1) Providing training guides to CBO leaders and volunteers (2) Developing a conservatorship information system and how-to manual that helps CBOs effectively employ blight elimination strategies (3) Create leadership development tracking standards (4) Research and create grassroots fundraising strategies (5) Create standards for project development and implementation.

 

The Corporation for National and Community Service provides a number of benefits to support VISTA members throughout their terms of service. Members receive a yearly living stipend of $11,880 per year, divided into bi-weekly payments. Members choose between a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award and an end-of-service stipend, which you’ll receive when you successfully complete your service term. Segal AmeriCorps Education Award: This education award is $5,815 for qualified classes, student loans, and other educational expenses. Stipend: The stipend is a cash award of $1,500 issued at the end of service. Relocation assistance is offered up to $1,000 and a one-time settling in allowance is given. AmeriCorps VISTA provides an optional Healthcare Allowance benefit to members who maintain health insurance coverage, and a basic Health Benefit Plan for those who are exempt from the requirement to have insurance. On-going training and professional development is also provided.

 

Successful applicants will possess excellent research and communication skills, authentic one-on-one relationship development, and the ability to work closely with economically and racially diverse individuals and organizations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media, and basic graphic design is highly desirable. Prior experiences with fundraising and grant writing are a plus.

Caley Yakemowicz is a Pittsburgh native who has just returned after years of living away in Atlanta, Georgia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She studied Political Science and International Studies at Penn State Behrend and she is currently serving her second term with AmeriCorps as the PCRG VISTA Leader. Caley can usually be found in the Strip District eating Primanti Brothers or running around the city in her Steeler poncho with a Terrible Towel in hand.
